Sydney Skyline
Harbour Bridge

Australia is a place with unbelievable natural beauty, makes you wonder why the Lord was partial in blessing it that way and Sydney in NSW is the crown jewel (I hear Melbournites, whining). Here's why, with perfect weather all year along (2C- 45C/35F-115F) and hundreds of beaches and so much to do, it cannot get any better.

This hub tries to persuade you to travel to Sydney and visit this wonderful city if you (lesser souls) live any where else in the world. If you are a ozzie, enjoy mate! The hub gives you a list of place to visit around Sydney. It might take you any where between an hour to 5 hours to get to these places. I have personally travelled to all of these places and love them and am trying to give you my perspective. You might not like all of them but I am sure you will never regret visiting any of them.

Transportation

CityRail - Extensive rail network
Monorail
Sydney Ferries

Sydney is one of the most well connected cities in the world. Transportation choices range from taxi, bus, car, tram, mono rail, to ferry (on rivers and sea). With the awesome weather you might also want to walk every where.

Trains run from the cities heart all the way upto the outer most suburb. Train services are very frequent and slow down late during the night and during weekends. But not to fret if train services are cancelled you are always assured of a replacement sevice on the bus. You can also take a cab or bus from any where with in the city.

Monorail covers very limited region within the Sydney city. A tram service also runs with a few regions of the Sydney city.

The Sydney ferry system is one of the best in the world and covers a large part of the city. The Circular Quay is the central station and also the one closest to the Opera House.

Attractions

Sydney Opera House - Beautiful from Outside...
...and Inside
Fireworks on New Year's Eve.
City Town Hall
Taronga Zoo
Luna Park

You have so much to see in Sydney. Lets start with the best of Sydney.

Opera House - It is the iconic building that you associate with Sydney, every thing is beautiful about this, the location, the architectural design and the inside. Even if you are not the Opers-Type go ahead and take a guided tour where they will show you are around this spectacular building. If you are in Sydney around New Year, you better not miss the fire works at midnight on New Years Eve. Every year they have a different theme so you can see it every year and not get bored. It is implied but let me say it, you should see it.

Harbour Bridge - Also a another iconic landmark, you will see it from the Opera House. For the more adventerous, you can climb that bridge.

Taronga Zoo - It is just another zoo but the location is just beautiful. I recommend you take a ferry from Circular Quay to the Zoo, it be a great way to get to the zoo.

Sydney Aquarium - Also one of the best aquariums in the world. Has a lot of aquatic animals along with some local animals from the great barrier reef.

Luna Park - A amusement park right in the middle of the city.

Darling Harbour - One of the best place to be to enjoy Sydney's night life. You have restaurants that satisfy every taste palate - Indian, Mongolian, Continental, Chinese, French, Italian all served by the sea side over looking the Harbour Bridge. There is also several of the best pubs and clubs in this region.

China Town - What more do I need to say, you can get a bargain for soveniers or T-Shirts and some unique items here.

Historic Buildings:

Queen Victoria Building - A historic building now turned into a shopping mall. It has some of the big name brands.

University Of Sydney - If you are a history buff pay a visit to this University, just to look at the building or read more here.

City Town Hall - Still holds meeting and gathering.

The Rocks - Another historic place that has now been converted into a shopping area and restaurant region. This was one of the earliest settlements when the British arrived. Now you will find some of the best bars, pubs that brew their own beer and serve some of the finest food. If you go here do not miss Lord Nelson, Sydney'd oldest restaurant, Lowenbrau Keller, Palisade- for some good food and better views. Another must go eatery is the Pan Cake At The Rocks, expect to stand in line if you do not book a table in advance, it is that good.

The Olympic Park - The stadium and other stuff built for the 2000 Olympics.

You have a few other places like the Royal Botanical Gardens, Museums and other shopping malls.

Phew, thats quiet a lot to see and enjoy. I love Sydney and I guarantee you would too.Sydney City has some of the best attractions and with other spectacular places around Sydney, is there any thing else I need to say? Oh ya, Where the bloody hell are you mate?

Great Hub on Sydney BundleBoy! I was born there but for some strange reason my parents wanted to return to the UK (it wasn't for the weather!) Have returned several times since and really enjoy my visits. Why can't London have sunshine and beaches?

Oh Australia is one of my favorite places in the world...I have a dream that when I'm old and free of my 'responsibilities', I want to go live on one of those wild beaches on Gold coast....! I have some very happy memories of my visit to Sydney (traveling) and your hub revived them! Wonderful job you've done....

Very good pictures of your vacation. I didn't see any aborigines though nor did you get to see the red crabs of Christmas Island, which is what most magazines show us about this beautiful country. But it looks like you had a good time anyways.

electricsky - You will see some natives around Sydney Harbour area enroute to Opera house (if you are lucky). But to experience their life style you will have to travel north to Darwin or to Alice Springs, Ulluru/Ayers Rock region.

Christmas Islands are on my "to visit" list!

From Darling Harbour, we can make our way to the famous Chinatown. This is one of the most exciting places in the city.

BundleBoy - fantastic compilation of New South Wales Tourist destinations!

Can I be so brave as to suggest a new addition?

You might enjoy sampling the Hunter Valley Wine Trail for a Tuscan experience of wine; semillon and fresh seafood, and perhaps some local chocolate and spicy shiraz?

HunterGiftBaskets - Thank you. I have never been to hunter valley and that's the only reason I have not included that here. They have the hot air balloon adventures too right? I will write another hub on Hunter Valley/New Castle area after I speak with a few friends who have been there. Thank you for the suggestion.
