Snowy Mountains region is the primary place for all snow sport nuts in Australia. It takes approximately 5 hours from Sydney. The Australia snow season last from May to September. There are few snow fields like Perisher Blue, Thredbo,Smiggins, Mount Selwyn,
Mount Blue Cow, Charlotte Pass and Guthega in this region that cater to various levels of expertise in snow sports.

Perisher and Smiggins
These the provide the highest ski runs and is the most visited. You have from begginer to expert level ski slopes. You have information desk, equipment hire, shopping, restaurants, ski shops, medical centers and child minding.

Thredbo
Another popular ski resort in Mount Crackenback, Thredbo is a re-creation of a European Alpine village. Thredbo is a thriving village which has the largest ski run in Australia. A large snow machine guarantees snow through out the winter season. You have from begginer to expert level ski slopes. Thredbo also offers information desk, equipment hire, shopping, restaurants, ski shops, medical centers,child minding, pubs,bars, pools,spas and golf course for summer time.

Mount Selwyn

Mt Selwyn is one of the newest ski areas in the Snowy region and the only resort in the northern end of Kosciusko National Park. It has its own air port. Mount Slewyn has much more cheaper accomodation and budget holiday packages that the rest of the resorts.
You have information desk, equipment hire, shopping, restaurants with beautiful views, bar, bistro, ski shops, medical centers and child minding.

The places to stay in the ski resorts might range from 100-150 per person during the season (as of 2009 season). The alternate option may be to stay in near by places like Jindabyne, Cooma or Tumut, they are all an hour or less from the snow fields.

The Snowy Mountain region also has the dams and hydro power stations created as part of the Snowy River Hydro Electric project. It was started in 1949 and construction completed in 1974. It is Australia's largest engineering works.
